What is ROADLINE '95?

ROADLINE '95 is a circuit racing game in the spirit of the racers of the mid-1990s - the years when texture-mapped 3D worlds, SVGA graphics and tracker music came to home computers. Every pixel of the 3D world is a number from one 256-color palette. Textures are point-sampled and affine-mapped, so they "swim" a little on big surfaces close to the camera, just like they did back then. Light, fog and headlights go through a colormap - a lookup table from color to color - exactly like the software engines of the time.

Under the hood it is modern: pure JavaScript and WebGL2, no libraries, and not a single image or sound file. Every texture, car, track, sample and song is generated by code when the game starts. The whole game fits in one HTML file of about 530 KB.
